The EX89 sneaker combines the historical influences of the 1989 GEL-EXTREME basketball shoe with modern cushioning features.

The original was developed in the late 1980s by Toshikazu Kayano. It was his first design for ASICS. The layered leather construction of the upper also features punchy color blocks to match the iconic NBA team uniforms of that era.

We updated the cushioning system with our FF BLAST technology. It has a sculpted heel to enhance comfort underfoot during everyday scenarios.

The pattern of the outsole is meant to reflect the aerial view of a city. This functional grip was originally inspired by the designer's first business trip to the United States in 1987.
